The upper body is the "valve" that encloses the COSMO incubator at the top. It's not just a lid: it's the supporting structure that houses all the machine's vital components.
Inside the upper body are housed: the control panel (analogue, LCD EVO Plus or MiniLed Advanced depending on the model), the fan motor with blade, the silicone heating cable, the internal lighting bulb and the ventilation holes.
It's made of high-strength ABS plastic, the same material used for professional helmets and briefcases. The aerodynamic shape isn't just aesthetic: it optimizes the airflow generated by the fan, evenly distributing heat throughout the incubation chamber.

🔍 When to replace this part
Replace the COSMO upper shell if you notice:
- ✓ Visible cracks: Even small cracks cause heat and moisture to escape.
- ✓ Breakages at attachment points: where the GACOS or hinges attach.
- ✓ Heat deformation: wavy or bent plastic near the resistor.
- ✓ Damaged control unit housing: the control panel no longer fits properly.
- ✓ Unstable temperature: the incubator struggles to maintain 37.7°C despite the heating element and control unit working.
⚠️ Why it happens and what you risk
The upper shell is damaged mainly by accidental impacts (falls, sudden movements) or prolonged thermal stress. Direct exposure to sunlight during storage can also weaken the plastic over time.
A cracked or warped body compromises thermal insulation: hot air escapes, cold air enters, and the heating element has to work harder to compensate. The result? Unstable temperatures, higher fuel consumption, and lower heating percentages. It's often thought to be a problem with the control unit or the heating element, but simply inspecting the bodywork will reveal the true cause.

⚠️ Important note: The chassis is the same for all COSMO versions. The housings are designed to accommodate both the analog panel and the digital control units (EVO Plus or MiniLed). The internal components (control unit, fan, resistor) must be purchased separately.
🔧 Assembly: complex operation
Estimated time: 45-60 minutes | Tools: Phillips screwdriver, pliers, and cable ties (if applicable)
Replacing the upper body requires disassembling and reassembling all internal components. This is a more complex operation than other replacement parts.
- Turn off and unplug the incubator
Unplug the appliance. Let it cool completely. - Photograph the connections
Before disconnecting any wires, take detailed photos of all electrical connections. You'll need them for reassembly. - Disassemble the internal components
Remove the following in order: control panel, fan motor with blade, protective grille, heating cable, and bulb with socket. Keep the screws separate and tidy. - Transfer to the new body
Reassemble all the components on the new body in reverse order. Use the photos as a guide for connections. - Final test
Reconnect the incubator and check: the fan is running, the heating element is heating, and the control unit is reading the temperature and humidity correctly.

🛡️ How to make it last longer
- ✓ Placement: Keep the incubator away from external heat sources and direct sunlight.
- ✓ Moving: Always lift the incubator from underneath (the lower body), never from the upper body.
- ✓ Cleaning: Use only soft cloths and mild detergents. Avoid harsh solvents that can dull or weaken the plastic.
- ⚠️ DON'T: Do not place weights on the body, do not force the closure if it does not latch easily.
