⚙️ How the COSMO Upper Shell Works

The upper body is the "valve" that encloses the COSMO incubator at the top. It's not just a lid: it's the supporting structure that houses all the machine's vital components.

Inside the upper body are housed: the control panel (analogue, LCD EVO Plus or MiniLed Advanced depending on the model), the fan motor with blade, the silicone heating cable, the internal lighting bulb and the ventilation holes.

It's made of high-strength ABS plastic, the same material used for professional helmets and briefcases. The aerodynamic shape isn't just aesthetic: it optimizes the airflow generated by the fan, evenly distributing heat throughout the incubation chamber.

🔍 When to replace this part

Replace the COSMO upper shell if you notice:

🔧 Assembly: complex operation

Estimated time: 45-60 minutes | Tools: Phillips screwdriver, pliers, and cable ties (if applicable)

Replacing the upper body requires disassembling and reassembling all internal components. This is a more complex operation than other replacement parts.

  1. Turn off and unplug the incubator
    Unplug the appliance. Let it cool completely.
  2. Photograph the connections
    Before disconnecting any wires, take detailed photos of all electrical connections. You'll need them for reassembly.
  3. Disassemble the internal components
    Remove the following in order: control panel, fan motor with blade, protective grille, heating cable, and bulb with socket. Keep the screws separate and tidy.
  4. Transfer to the new body
    Reassemble all the components on the new body in reverse order. Use the photos as a guide for connections.
  5. Final test
    Reconnect the incubator and check: the fan is running, the heating element is heating, and the control unit is reading the temperature and humidity correctly.

The Fiem humidity tray lid , compatible with the MG and Astrale series, is an original spare part designed to simply yet effectively regulate humidity inside the incubator . During incubation, humidity is generated naturally through the evaporation of the water contained in the tray. However, when the ambient humidity is already high or excessive humidity occurs inside the machine, it is useful to reduce the evaporating surface to bring the values back within optimal limits. This lid allows you to partially cover the tray , limiting evaporation and stabilizing the internal microclimate. It is a simple system, but essential for successful hatching. When is it needed? For incubators without a built-in hygrometer , as a visual check in addition to the control unit sensor, for continuous monitoring without replacing batteries. The dimensions are designed for the MG and Astrale series holes.

How it works: The hair hygrometer exploits the property of hair (natural or synthetic) to stretch as humidity increases. A system of levers transmits this variation to a hand with a graduated scale in %RH. It requires no electrical power.

Comparison with a wet bulb hygrometer: A hair hygrometer is easier to install (just insert it into the hole) and requires no water or sock maintenance. However, it has a slower response (5-25 minutes vs. a few minutes) and lower accuracy (±5% vs. ±3%). The wet bulb is specifically calibrated for 37.8°C, while the hair hygrometer is generic. For precise professional monitoring, we recommend the wet bulb; for practical, maintenance-free monitoring, the hair hygrometer is excellent.
