⚙️ How the COSMO Upper Shell Works

The upper body is the "valve" that encloses the COSMO incubator at the top. It's not just a lid: it's the supporting structure that houses all the machine's vital components.

Inside the upper body are housed: the control panel (analogue, LCD EVO Plus or MiniLed Advanced depending on the model), the fan motor with blade, the silicone heating cable, the internal lighting bulb and the ventilation holes.

It's made of high-strength ABS plastic, the same material used for professional helmets and briefcases. The aerodynamic shape isn't just aesthetic: it optimizes the airflow generated by the fan, evenly distributing heat throughout the incubation chamber.

🔍 When to replace this part

Replace the COSMO upper shell if you notice:

🔧 Assembly: complex operation

Estimated time: 45-60 minutes | Tools: Phillips screwdriver, pliers, and cable ties (if applicable)

Replacing the upper body requires disassembling and reassembling all internal components. This is a more complex operation than other replacement parts.

  1. Turn off and unplug the incubator
    Unplug the appliance. Let it cool completely.
  2. Photograph the connections
    Before disconnecting any wires, take detailed photos of all electrical connections. You'll need them for reassembly.
  3. Disassemble the internal components
    Remove the following in order: control panel, fan motor with blade, protective grille, heating cable, and bulb with socket. Keep the screws separate and tidy.
  4. Transfer to the new body
    Reassemble all the components on the new body in reverse order. Use the photos as a guide for connections.
  5. Final test
    Reconnect the incubator and check: the fan is running, the heating element is heating, and the control unit is reading the temperature and humidity correctly.

A customer from Bassano del Grappa wrote to me: "The quail eggs are drying out, the chicks can't hatch." Checking the photos, the trays were too small (not original). I replaced both with original FIEM 350 TOP trays, and the next hatching went perfectly.

When is it needed? If the tray is cracked, leaking, warped , or too hardened to be cleaned, it should be replaced. The CIP CIP 28 uses two trays : normally one for incubation and both for hatching.
