⚙️ How does GACOS work?

The GACOS is the fastening system that holds together the two halves of the COSMO incubator: the lower body (bottom) and the upper body. It consists of a metal hook and a threaded insert that screw together, creating a secure and stable closure.

A tight seal is essential for maintaining a constant temperature and humidity inside the incubation chamber. If the GACOS are broken, loose, or missing, the two shells won't fit together perfectly, creating invisible gaps that disperse heat.

🔍 When to replace this part

Replace the GACOS if you notice:

  • ✓ Broken or bent hook: The metal hook has broken or become deformed.
  • ✓ Stripped threaded insert: the thread is worn and no longer holds.
  • ✓ Shells that don't fit together: the two shells no longer fit together securely.
  • ✓ Play between the shells: the two halves move even when they are hooked together.

⚠️ Why it happens and what you risk

GACOS are damaged primarily by mechanical wear: opening and closing the incubator hundreds of times over the years stresses the mechanism. Excessive force when closing or accidental impacts can also break them.

A broken GACOS means an imperfect seal. Even a small gap between the two shells causes heat and humidity to escape. Temperature fluctuates, humidity drops, and hatching is affected. People often think it's a problem with the heating element or thermostat, but a few euros for a new GACOS will solve the problem.

  1. Remove damaged GACOS
    Unscrew or unhook the old GACOS from its mounting point. If the insert is stripped, you may need to remove it with pliers.
  2. Enter the new GACOS
    Place the threaded insert into the hole in the body and screw the hook until it locks securely.
  3. Final test
    Close the incubator and check that the two shells fit snugly together without any play. Try opening and closing them several times to make sure the latch holds securely.

  • ✓ During use: close the incubator gently, without forcing the hooks.

CIP Fan Protective Net CIP 28 / CIP CIP 40 – The safety barrier that protects the ventilation system. This metal mesh prevents debris, feathers, and shell fragments from entering the fan, maintaining air circulation and preventing noise or blockages during incubation. It also prevents the operator from inadvertently coming into contact with the fan.

A breeder in Treviso contacted me about a strange noise from his CIP 28 incubator: "It sounds like something is scratching the fan blades." Upon opening the incubator, we found the protective mesh was deformed and touching the fan with each rotation. After replacing the mesh, the problem went away, and incubation continued without a hitch.

When is it needed? If you notice rubbing noises, the mesh probably needs replacing. Even after aggressive cleaning with corrosive products , or if the mesh appears visibly rusted, deformed, or has loosened meshes, it's time to replace it.

⚠️ ATTENTION WHEN ORDERING: There are two versions – always specify whether you need it for CIP CIP 28 or CIP CIP 40 when ordering. The dimensions are different and are not interchangeable.
