When is it needed? If the motor turns but the grid doesn't rotate , or the turning is irregular, with jerks or jams. Even if you hear the motor working but see that the eggs don't move. When are they needed? If you hear abnormal vibrations, metallic noises, or rattling coming from the fan compartment, or if you notice that the fan isn't perfectly centered, the bearings probably need replacing. Even during preventative maintenance , when you replace the fan motor, it's good practice to check the condition of the bearings.
