⚙️ How does the gearmotor cover work?
The gear motor cover is a protective plastic shell that attaches to the egg turning motor. Its function is simple but essential: to protect the gear motor from dust, feathers, fluff, and any debris that could get in during incubation and hatching.
The gear motor is a precision component with internal gears. If dust or feathers enter the mechanism, the gears wear out faster, the motor overheats, and eventually seizes up. The cover prevents this, keeping the motor clean and functioning properly for years.

🔍 When to replace this part
Replace the gear motor cover if you notice:
- ✓ Broken or cracked lid: Even a small crack lets dust and debris through.
- ✓ Missing cover: The engine is completely exposed and will quickly get dirty.
- ✓ Broken hooks: the lid no longer holds securely and comes off or wobbles.
- ✓ Yellowed or brittle plastic: After years of use, plastic degrades and becomes brittle.
⚠️ Why it happens and what you risk
The lid breaks mainly due to accidental impacts during cleaning or maintenance, or due to the plastic becoming brittle after years of exposure to heat. Sometimes it simply comes off because the fasteners have worn out.
A gearmotor without a cover is like a car engine without a hood: it works, but it gets dirty quickly and wears out prematurely. Feathers, dust, and down from the chicks as they hatch get caught in the mechanism. The motor starts to make noise, overheat, and eventually seizes up. Replacing a cover costs little more than a euro; replacing a gearmotor costs a lot.

- Remove the old cover (if present)
Gently unclip the damaged cover by pulling it upward. If it's broken into pieces, remove all the fragments.
- Attach the new lid
Place the new cover over the gearmotor and press gently until you hear the latches click into place. Make sure it is securely fastened and not loose.

- ✓ After each cycle: Wipe the lid with a damp cloth to remove dust and residue.
- ✓ When cleaning: remove the lid gently, without forcing the latches.
- ⚠️ DON'T: Do not use harsh chemicals on plastic, do not expose to direct heat sources.
