⚙️ How does the transparent door work?
The transparent PVC door allows for continuous visual monitoring of the incubation process without having to open the machine. Its function is twofold: to maintain an airtight seal by preventing heat and humidity from escaping, and to ensure maximum visibility of the eggs' condition, allowing for monitoring of embryonic development, proper rotation, and any anomalies without disturbing the internal parameters.
PVC is chosen for its crystal-clear transparency similar to glass but with superior impact resistance, dimensional stability even with temperature fluctuations of 15-40°C, and resistance to constant humidity. With prolonged use, however, exposure to UV rays, repeated contact with detergents during cleaning, and micro-abrasions from opening/closing can cause clouding or progressive deformation, reducing visibility and closing to the point where replacement is necessary.
🔍 When to replace this part
This component should be replaced if you notice one or more of these symptoms:
- ✓ Cloudy or yellowed PVC: you can no longer see the eggs clearly and are forced to open them to check
- ✓ Cracks or breaks: even small cracks compromise thermal and hygroscopic sealing
- ✓ Obvious deformations: warped door that no longer closes flush, leaving drafts
- ✓ Loss of seal: you feel air coming out of the edges
⚠️ Why it happens and what you risk
Clouding of the PVC door is mainly caused by superficial micro-abrasions during cleaning (using abrasive sponges or aggressive detergents), direct exposure to UV rays if the incubator is near windows, and the accumulation of mineral deposits from condensation that settle on the interior surface. In hobbyist breeding facilities, this process takes 6-8 years; in intensive professional use, it can appear as early as 4-5 years.
If you continue to use an opaque door, you'll be forced to open the incubator to check the condition of the eggs: each opening causes an immediate drop in temperature (1-2°C drop) and humidity (10-15%) that takes 15-30 minutes to re-establish. During the critical hatching phase (days 18-21 for chickens), these fluctuations can delay hatching, cause the chick to misplace itself in the egg, or reduce the hatch rate. The cost of the door (€13-19.50) is more than worth it by preventing the loss of even a few chicks.

With minimal maintenance you can significantly extend the life of your PVC door:
- ✓ Every 3 months: clean with a soft microfibre cloth and warm water (never use aggressive detergents or abrasive sponges that scratch the PVC)
- ✓ Every 6 months: check that the side hooks are intact and that the door closes hermetically without drafts
- ✓ During use: open and close gently without forcing, avoid leaving the incubator exposed to direct sunlight which accelerates yellowing
- ✓ ⚠️ DON'T: Never use alcohol, acetone, ammonia, or glass cleaners that dull PVC; do not clean with sandpaper or rough sponges.
