Replace the cable gland when: it is cracked or broken, it no longer tightens the cable, hardened rubber does not seal, the cable moves freely, there are signs of overheating, it is missing after repairs, for preventative safety.

WARNING: Always unplug first! Loosen the ring nut of the old cable gland. Remove the cable. Insert the new cable gland into the hole. Pass the cable through. Tighten the ring nut until the cable is secure (it should not move, but it should not be crushed).
