A system of levers transmits this variation to a hand with a graduated scale in %RH. It requires no electrical power. Comparison with a wet bulb hygrometer: A hair hygrometer is easier to install (just insert it into the hole) and requires no water or sock maintenance. However, it has a slower response (5-25 minutes vs. a few minutes) and lower accuracy (±5% vs. ±3%). The wet bulb is specifically calibrated for 37.8°C, while the hair hygrometer is generic.
